DOOMDOOMA: A team of officials from Assam Town and Country Planning, Dibrugarh office, comprising Deputy Director Biswajit Bhuyan and Assistant Director B.M.K. Lahon presented a power point presentation of the draft Master Plan for Doomdooma in the office of Doomdooma Municipal Board (DMB) on Monday in presence of MLA Rupresh Gowala, chairperson Kanta Bhattacharjee, Vice-Chairman Moni Dutta, Ward Commissioners, office staff and a section of distinguished persons of the town.

The draft master plan was prepared keeping in view the requirement of land and other amenities for next twenty years from now i.e. 2041. Currently, Doomdooma Municipal Board has a area of 4.30 Sq Km with population of 21,572. In the draft master plan the area has shown to be 54.46 Sq Km of which 50.16 is rural area and 4.30 Sq Km, urban area (DMB). As against this, the total population is 61,601, the urban rural population divide being 21,572 and 40,029 respectively.

As per schedule, Doomdooma Master Plan would cover two revenue circles - Doomdooma and Tinsukia, two blocks - Kakapather and Hapjan and three mauzas - Doomdooma Hapjan and Tingrai.

The boundary of the draft master plan are north: Tipuk 101 FSsouth: Raidang TE East : Bordubi TE and west : Daimukhia T.E. In course of discussion Deputy Director Buyan said that master plan is a statutory and legal document to check unplanned and haphazard urban growth. Ruling out the misgivings of some people with regard to expansion of DMB, he told that to avail required central fund for its infrastructural development, it was necessary to have a master plan. However a public meeting would be held before its finalisation.
